Who said this blog wouldn't be educational?
Speaking of education, I received my undergrad degree from Valparaiso University in 1995. It truly was a wonderful experience, in particular my freshman year was probably one of the best years of my life (although my liver paid dearly and my grades suffered terribly). 20 years ago I moved into my dorm room, not knowing that some of my dearest friends were right down the hall.
Our floor freshman year was crazy. For the most part, all of the girls got along great, in fact many of them pledged the same sorority; however I did not. But that fact did not break our bond...for some years later I had the amazing good fortune of reconnecting with the Valpo Gals.
It is hard to believe I've known this group of girls for 20 years now. I feel so very fortunate to have them in my life...more than words can express.
A couple of weeks ago they through the Nugget a baby shower - one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. It was a wonderful time and it made me realize the depth of our friendship and what true friendship means. It means being there, through the good and the bad. It means to be strong, when your friend might need a shoulder to cry on. It means to be supportive, loving, and respectful. It means not passing judgment for making poor decisions. It means to forgive, forget, and move on with a deeper sense of who we all are and with an even deeper bond of friendship.
This shower was so personal, so warm. They knew that Erik likes to work on various art projects, and quite honestly he is very talented. So as part of the shower we all got to be creative and make our own little drawings for the baby's room. Here is a picture:
We plan on framing this gem. I cannot wait for the Nugget to meet these girls. I can only hope and pray that our little bambino will have as deep and meaningful friendships as I do with the Valpo Gals.
